Remembering Dear Gavinka
Honor purebred Akhal-Teke mare Gavinka at the nonprofit Akhal-Teke Center.
Beloved mare Gavinka lost her fight for life in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 19, 2026, at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Virginia Tech. She had fought calmly and bravely for days against the sudden onset of a devastating condition. Hopefully the necropsy will be able to find the underlying cause.
Gavinka was born and raised at Shenandoah Farm (Gindarkh x Goldka, 2005). After entering the direct care of the Akhal-Teke Foundation in 2023, she's had great joy in her foals Robbie (2024) and Grace (2025).
She is survived by two beautiful offspring at the Akhal-Teke Foundation, Robbie (Ehyr Altaz x Gavinka, 2024) and Grace (Caladesi x Gavinka, 2024). She had great love for these children, coming as a blessing late in her life.
As of April 13, 2026, this dear beautiful girl was in the hospital at Virginia Tech, fighting for her life after suddenly losing control of her hind end.
